Everything You Need to Know: Free CPR & First Aid Training
Q: Am I required to enroll my HTS staff in these new training classes contracted with East Central University?
A: No. This is an additional option for EORs to access a free CPR/first aid training. You can still select a CPR vendor from the approved SDS vendor list if you prefer and submit an invoice to your case manager to have the training cost added to the plan of care.
Q: If I choose one of the classes through this new program, does the cost of the class come out of my plan of care budget?
A: No. The classes offered in the program will be free. This class requires full-day attendance, and there will be a $35 out-of-pocket charge if your HTS does not show up on time and complete the full day of training.
Q: Are the classes offered by SDS-approved vendors now free?
A: No. The current SDS CPR/First Aid training is provided by approved independent contractors that have entered an agreement with the state to provide their services and bill the state directly. At this time, SDS-approved CPR/first aid training contractors are not included in the free training program.
Q: Do I have to use East Central University or an approved SDS vendor, or can I use another CPR/first aid company of my choosing?
A: You can select a CPR/first aid company that is not a part of the East Central University program or the approved SDS vendor list. However, the organization you select must provide in-person training and a two-year certification. Should you choose this option, you will need to pay for the training out of pocket.
Q: Are these classes through East Central University offered everywhere in the state?
A: No, they are only offered in Norman (University of Oklahoma), Tulsa (OSU Tulsa Conference Center) & Ada (East Central University).
